THE MADAN MOHAN LOHIA CULTURAL FOUNDATION KOLHAPUR
The Unique “Natya Sangeet vocal singing competition show” and “The Natya Sangeet Concert” by Asha Khadilkar. Sunday,13th January 2013. The Madan Mohan Lohia Cultural Foundation, Kolhapur (MMLCF) held its first, unique state level Natya Sangeet vocal singing competition at Ram Ganesh Gadkari Cultural Hall, Kolhapur. The Foundation organized such state level competition to provide a platform to upcoming talent in the field of classical music as well as to revive old Tradition Marathi music form – “Natya Sangeet ”. The competition show was inaugurated by Smt.Shiladevi Lohia. About 30 competitors across the State participated in the competition. All the singers gave their best flavors of the Natya Sangeet and glorified the show by their melodious singing. Ms. Swarupa Ram Barve from Kolhapur secured the first prize (Rs. 5000/-), Ms. Kimaya Sudhir Lolavekar (Pune) secured second (Rs.3000/-) and Anup Bhalchandra Bapat (Ratnagiri) secured third prize (Rs.2000/-) in the competition. Five Consolation Certificates were offered to the consolation winners Medha Mannur (Sangli), Bhupali Sidhaye (Pune), Gajanana Gadre (Devgad), Divya Apte (Ratnagiri) and Tejas Mestri (Vengurla). All the winners were felicitated and give prize at the auspicious hands of Mrs.Asha Khadilkar and Shri Vinay Davjekar. Ms. Swarupa Ram Barve who topped the competition has been the past student of NES – Princess Padmaraje Girls Highschool and Sau. S.M.Lohia Junior College, Kolhapur. Swarupa has been a versatile student securing 91% in S.S.C. and 88% in H.S.C. She pursues her dream in Music and has been taking lessons under the guidance of her Guru, Arati Ankalikar, at Pune. She has participated various music competition shows like “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” on Zee Marathi. The ecstasy of delight for the whole day, was the heavenly “Natya Sangeet Rajini ” by Asha Khadilkar. The audience was stunned by her magical singing. She won thousands of hearts at Gadkari Hall by presenting Natya Sangeet and Classical bandish. It was a memorable concert for the music lovers of Kolhapur. The Foundation will organize such music competitions every year. It is rightly said that man can’t live on the bread only. One of the emotional needs of a man is ‘expression’. All the arts in the world came into existence to satisfy man’s inner urge to express himself. One such great art is ‘operas’ Maharashtra or Marathi stage has great tradition of musical plays.
Marathi musical darama’s have adorned the pages of the history plays. Marathi musical plays are not just dramas. They are our proud heritage. They are priceless possession of marathi culture. Years and years altogether the pioneers of marathi musical dramas strived hard to lay strong foundation of musical dramas. The artists then took tireless efforts and produced unique, indefinable phenomenon of musical dramas. The musical dramas are really matchless. Shri Madanmohan B. lohia was an Arden lover of musical plays in Marathi. Mr.Madanmohan Lohia strained his every nerve and muscle to preserve this great and unique asset. Mr. Lohia was fortunate enough to come in contact with the great author’s singers, artist like ‘Balgandharva’, ‘V.V.Shirvadkar’, ‘Vasant Kanetkar’, ‘Vasantrao Deshpande’, and ‘P.L.Deshpande’. All the great artists at that time showered their choicest blessings on Mr M.B.Lohia for his selfless, matchless love for marathi musical dramas. In the regime of Mr. Madanmohan Lohia, the musical dramas presented by the New Education Society, Kolhapur were the pinnacles of glory. Unfortunately, the sad demise of Mr. Madanmohan Lohia interrupted this great tradition of the New Education Society. To pay glowing tribute for lingering memories of Shri Madanmohan Lohia, the New Education Society founded ‘Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch’. The Manch aims at keeping the memory of Madanmohan Lohia alive as well as to provide the platform to the artist students and ex-student of the New Education Society. In the very beginning of the Manch, Mr.V.H.Vaze, the President Mr.Vinodkumar Lohia, Vice President of the ‘Manch’, shouldered the responsibility of the activities of the ‘Manch’. Shri Ram Joshi, senior music composer in Kolhapur, Mrs.Dr.Sheetal Dharamadhikari, music teacher in Princess Padamaraje Highschool, Prof. Satish Kulkarni, S.M.Lohia Junior College, are now in charge of the presentation of the musical dramas. Mr. Sudhakar Atigre is in control of the management of the dramas. The young artists Mugdha Latkar, Vrunda Kuber, Pratyancha Rajadnya, Prasenjeet Kosambi, Manish Apte, Sourabh Dharamadhikari, Omkar Barve, Vinod Thakur-Desai, Pralhad Jadhav, Rohit Haldikar reigned the musical plays by their matchless performances and the artists famous organ player Bhaskarao Pethe, tabla player Mahesh Desai, Sandesh Khedekar have taken the Marathi musical plays presented by the New Education Society on the wave of popularity. ‘Sangeet Soubhadra’ was the maidan opera of the ‘Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch’. Sangeet Soubhadra bagged many prestigious awards in its very first performance. To give the complete list of the awards is difficult. To name a few – Award by ‘Natesh Rangbhumi, Goa’, ‘Award in Dashharra Mahotsav’ Kolhapur, ‘Sahitya Sangh, Girgaon, Mumbai’, ‘Siddhivinayak Mahotsav, Mumbai’, etc. on the eve of 88th Natya Sammelan, Solapur, the special show of ‘Sangeet Soubhadra’ had been arranged. Cabinet Minister Shri. Sushilkumar Shinde, ‘Ramesh Dev’, ‘Govarikar, scientist, etc were present to watch the show. We are proud to say that the show left all the personalities mentioned above spell bound. ‘Sangeet Soubhadra’ got record awards / prizes in the 35th drama competition held in New Delhi. Recently Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch took a step ahead. The Manch presented another famous musical play ‘Sangeet Swayanvar’. This play has also been getting unbemdimg support of the viewers. Late Balgandharav had popularized many characters in his career. The characters are still green in memory of Marathi audience. Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch launched the special show ‘Dashnaika’ in which the musical songs were presented by the artists. The salient feature of the show was that the songs were presented in dreppary in classical manner. Really the show was very fascinating and clinged in the memory of the audience.Besides being presenting the stage shows Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch Organises seminars, speeches frequently. ‘Madanmohan Lohia Sanskritik Manch’ aims at providing canvas to the young artists in the New Education Society and to give them proper exposure.
